I recently signed up for Gastropost – a weekly challenge to food lovers and this week’s mission was to Drink Like a Movie Star. Gearing towards Torontoians, with the Toronto International Film Festival in mind, but what’s wrong with kicking back and concocting a little cocktail at home, while catching up on Master Chef instead? Nothing at all (right?)!
I completed my first challenge tonight – the warm weather is drawing to a close here, but there’s still a few sparkles of warm liquid sunlight stretching into the evenings. Still a last chance to remember summer, and celebrate it with a fruity, fun, refreshing drink – this Strawberry Daiquiri!
I tried out a couple of things to make this drink stand out. I added a banana to make it creamier, and orange juice instead of sugar for sweetness (I noticed the bartenders by the pool at Montebello adding juice, and now that I’ve done the same, I can see why!)
Try it out!
1 cup ice (add more if you use only fresh fruit)
1.5 cups strawberries (fresh or frozen)
1 small banana (fresh or frozen)
1 lime, juiced (about 1 oz)
1 oz orange juice
2 oz rum
Add everything to blender, and blend until smooth. Use the lime shell to run around the top edge of your glass, and rim with sugar – this will make the daiquiri nice and sweet.
Makes 2. Enjoy! And forgive me from chronically spelling “daiquiri” wrong (auto-correct, I am testing you on this one!)
