The last month has really zoomed by. It’s easy for the days to slip quickly past while the weather is gorgeous almost every day and it was a pretty decent summer! During his fourth month, Julian started joining us on one of our favourite pastimes, traveling! At the beginning of the month we took a trip to Montebello and had a great time hanging out with my co-workers and their families.
Coming home, not working, and the endless sunny skies made me feel like I’m on the best kind of stay at home vacation. We also headed up to the family baseball tournament in Venosta, and at the end of the month, we took a road trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls. It’s been nice enjoying the sunny weather and getting out for walks.
At the beginning of the month, Julian started rolling onto his tummy and wants to do it any chance he gets. Which meant a few nights of rolling over and waking up mad every few hours. As the month went on his night times shifted to going to bed around 8:30pm and sleeping through to 6:30 or 7am, usually on his side, clutching a blanket. I’m happy of course, but can’t help feeling it’s a fragile balance that will be interrupted at any time by teeth sprouting up or a new physical development. I’m enjoying it while it lasts, though.
Baby J also had to get his four month shots at his check-up, and since Tyler was playing a noon time gig, my friend Meg came with me. it was so nice to have another set of hands there to pass along a diaper, hold him while I peppered the nurse with questions about what comes next, and she even held him tight while the needles went in as I got ready to nurse him right away afterwards. He did well – cried a bit but recovered fast.
Every day seems to bring a stronger baby with a new skill and lust to learn. One day he’s shaking a rattle and delighting that he is making the sound, the next day he’s sturdy enough for the exersaucer and the Jolly Jumper. Everything goes into his mouth, and he’s still drooling a river, but besides gnawing on everything, his gums don’t seem to be bothering him as much for now.
He rolls over constantly and is always wiggling, kicking, and moving. Another favourite move is getting his toes into his mouth. He is also reaching for things all the time and when he gets them, manages to maneuver it into his mouth (instead of bopping himself in the head, cheek, or eye). Smiles come even more easily than ever before, and we’re loving our happy, fiesty, funny baby boy.
Happy five months to my little guy!
