About

Hello there and welcome to My Ottawa Life. I’m Melanie, and I live in Canada’s capital with my husband Tyler, baby son Julian, and little dog Herman.

In 2009, I quit my steady, comfortably boring job to go back to school and pursue something I loved – web design.

In 2010, after completing a graduate certificate in Interactive Multimedia, I started this blog to practice my new skills. After taking a month long trip to China, I was bit by the travel bug, loving every experience and the chance to photograph and write about it.

Once home, I accepted a job doing search engine optimization for a high-tech company. After 2 weeks, I was offered my dream job working for a company that makes websites for musicians, and I took it without looking back.

This is my personal slice of home on the web. My writing is generally upbeat and positive. Those are the moments that I want to remember, after all; the bubbling laughs, the feel of sunshine on my face, the smell of baking bread. Everyone gets tired, frustrated, and upset, and I’m not anywhere near perfect. But I do know that I have it pretty good and when I look back, I want to see a life lived as fully and happily as possible.

I love to travel, take photos, cook, read, and of course, write about it all! Thanks for stopping by.
